If you don't find the answer to your question below, please contact Prof. Zoki Phantom through a message or post in the appropriate thread at the Class Forum.
NOTE: This is a returning class. It was offered by myself in the school years 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. While the class has been majorly reworked (website was changed, lessons were modified, assignments were fully redone, graphics were modified) it is in essence still that same old class. So if you've already passed that old Herbology class taught by me, I'd advise against signing up for this one. The assignments are different so you CAN do so if you wish, but I can't promise you won't get bored if you've passed the class once already.
- What are the requirements for taking this class?
- Are there any class rules I need to follow?
Yes, since this class is part of HOL Virtual Hogwarts you must follow ALL HOL RULES. In addition to that you must send in assignments properly subjected (a bad subject will result with -1 house point on the assignment) and you must NOT send attachments (everything should be in the body of the email, -1 house point applies here as well).
Any rule breaking, depending on the severity can lead to a warning, negative points, and/or expulsion.
- What will I study and how many points can I earn?
There will be 5 lessons in total, one of which will introduce you to the subject while the rest will cover herbs and fungi from the Wizarding World. Each lesson will be accompanied with an Assignment, consisting of a Homework part and an Extra Credit part, both together worth 60 points (thus a possibility to earn up to 300 house points through this class).
- How do I earn a quill?
In order to earn a quill, you must manage at least an A (Acceptable) grade by the end of this course, which means you must earn at least 120 points. No exceptions!
Here is the complete grading system, which includes Outstanding, Exceeds Expectations, Acceptable, Poor, Dreadful, and Troll:
O = 81 - 100%
E = 61 - 80%
A = 40 - 60%
P = 20 - 39%
D = 1 - 19%
T = 0%
- Can I lose points or get kicked out from the class?
Including attachments in the assignment emails, wrongly subjecting emails, and violating any of the HOL Rules may result in negative house points. Continued trouble in class may lead to expulsion.
- When will I receive points for my work? Can we have extensions?
This really depends on how busy my schedule is. I will try my best to submit points at the end or at the start of every month, but I cannot make that a promise. What I can promise is that you I will try my best to deliver your points as soon as possible after the deadline of the assignment has passed. If you ever need an extension simply drop me a HOL message or a PM on the forum.
- Are there class awards?
Yes, the students taking this class will be eligible to earn these three awards:
Shining Star of Hardwork - awarded to everyone who manages to get at least an E.
Greenhouse Keeper Award - awarded to the students who earn an O.
Special Achievement in Herbology - awarded to students who manage to excel over the rest of the students (by amusing me, impressing me, etc.).
- Where and how should I send my work? What if I have questions?
Please submit all the class work to zokivphantom[at]gmail.com with the following title: Herbs - [Title of work] - [HOL ID]
Title of work should be replaced with the work piece --- Intro, GH1, GH2, etc. HOL ID is where you need to write your own ID. Ex: Herbs - GH1 - zo808
In the body of the e-mail remember to include your HOL Name, HOL House, and HOL ID.
If you have any questions, please use the appropriate topic at the Class Forum, or just send me a HOL Message. I would advise against using the class email for questions as I may not check that email very frequently so you may end up waiting for an answer.
